NARS Orgasm Blush

Left and right I keep hearing (and reading) that NARS Orgasm is a must-have item.  I wanted to know if this stuff was legendary because of the publicity it has received or if its truly a great product.

First off, bravo to the NARS team for coming up with a product that has such a notorious name - that alone probably drove sales through the roof.

Orgasm is described as a peachy-pink color with gold shimmer.  I think it should be the other way around - a shimmery gold blush with a hint of pink.  I think what really sets this product apart from the rest is that the color is unique.  That can be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on your preference.   For me, the color balance is off, there's just too much shimmer.  I wanted the pink to come out for the swatch below, so a heavy application was necessary:

Although it does feel light and is smooth to apply, it did not stay on as long as I hoped.  I noticed it stays for an average of three to four hours tops.  Bobbi Brown and MAC have better staying power.

It's pretty, yes, but I think it can be quite limiting.  I don't really like how it looks during the day and prefer this for an evening look.  One must be careful with whatever else makeup is worn unless the purpose is to come up with an "over the top" look.  And seriously, a lot of people end up looking over the top without realizing, right?  It's a common mistake.  To make NARS Orgasm work, I suggest using a cream blush and applying a light wash of this on top to highlight and add dimension to your base color.

Do you need this?  If you're on a budget, I say skip this for a color that's more wearable.  But if you love things that sparkle and shimmer, then you'll enjoy having this.  Personally, I wouldn't repurchase because it's just too much work for a blush.

  1. I recently purchased the Sephora trio - the one with Laguna bronzer, Orgasm blush, and one of their popular highlighters. I was underwhelmed by the saturation too, but I do really like the buildability of all three products. I don't have very many other high end blushes, so I don't have much to compare it to, but I agree that it's a bit too shimmery. People don't get shimmery when the blush's namesake happens, right? Haha. Anyway, glad you're not totally jaded like some others are by this product.

  4. wow! great review sis! i've been reading a lot of raves about this and I'm glad to have read something a lil different. I've been burned by the OL hype before, so I really wanna be careful before I purchase something, esp when it comes with a high price tag...maybe I should drop by their counter to swatch for myself LOL...but thanks for this great review! :)

  5. @Jenn - Your comment made me LOL! I have to admit, I was jaded at first but it grew on me after a while.

@beautylilsecrets - You're welcome. I suggest stick to colors without any shimmer then just add a highlight. Bobbi Brown has pretty good ones.

  6. Interesting! NARS wears fine on me, but I have a friend who feels the same way that you do; that it's gone in a few hours.

  8. Yeah, when I first swatched this I thought "shimmerbomb!" too. For some reason I go for matte blushes more :)
