Benefit Speed Brow

Benefit recently opened here (so delayed, I tell you!) and with the traffic, driving to the store location takes an hour. I had to attend an event and it was held a stone's throw away from the Benefit store. That's how I ended up there. Otherwise, I don't have the patience to sit in my car for that long just to buy some makeup.

I was checking out what they had to offer and wow, everything came in such adorable packaging. Even the store decor was so gosh darn cute!

Speed Brow immediately caught my attention because I was just ran out of Shu Uemura Eyebrow Manicure and I couldn't take another day of shading the sparse area of my eyebrow with powder or pencil then trying to tame it with some clear mascara.

Anything to make our beauty routine simpler, faster is welcome. Agree?

Just like Eyebrow Manicure, Speed Brow is applied directly on your brows with a spoolie. It should hold your brows in place while providing a light tint. And that's where the similarity ends.

Speed Brow is a gel product so it feels wet and takes a moment to dry down. I personally don't like the subtle stickiness of gel on my hair and it doesn't hold for very long. Shu Uemura is waxy and lasts the entire day.

Having a gel of consistency also affects pigmentation. For the swatch above, I had to generously apply the product on my arm so you have an idea of what the shade is supposed to be. But in actuality, you won't need to apply this much and it really doesn't show up on me. Maybe it's because of my black hair?

However, I do think this could work for those with fine, light colored hair. I could be wrong, it's just a hunch.

So, nope. Never purchasing this again. I'll stick to Eyebrow Manicure. My only problem with that is its so popular, it's always out of stock!

Chanel Illusion D' Ombre in Illusoire

Since Illusion D'Ombre came out last year, I wanted these so desperately it hurt. At that time, I was saving up for the wedding plus vacation so splurging was out of the question. That, plus the fact that I have my stingy moments.

I expected these to be limited edition which made me feel doubly bad. It never left the shelves... Wheeeeeeeee! :)

Apparently shopping is a coping mechanism for me because when Preppyboy and I were on separate continents for a month last May (business trip), I went nuts and picked up four of these.

I got a kick out of this product! It's probably a bad idea to keep making it bounce by poking my makeup brush on it... but its a fun sight. I even showed it to a friend of mine hehe!

Each pot comes with a small synthetic brush that you can carry around. The tip is about the same size as your usual lip brush except that it's angled. This way, you can use it either as an eyeliner or eyeshadow. I like how Chanel's applicators are actually usable and sturdy.

If you love smoky eyes but hate having to deal with fall out, this is definitely something you need to own. It's works like cream eyeshadow although the cushiony texture makes it feel a bit wet. Let me clarify - it feels wet but it actually isn't.

This glides on to the eyelid and blends effortlessly. I think you'll love that its easy to control the intensity of this shadow. Check out the swatch on my arm: to the left, it was applied lightly and to the right, I used a heavier hand.

Illusoire is a deep purple shade with a dark brown base and silvery pink shimmer. I usually use this with a primer as base and top it off with a very light wash of powder eyeshadow. Follwing those steps, I get a wear time of at least 10 hours.

For the look below, I decided to show you what it looks like on its own. On my lid and lower lashline, I used Illusoire without any other eyeshadow or base. The only other products on my eyes are liquid black eyeliner and mascara.

Illusion D'Ombre is one of the best eyeshadows I've had and I'm pretty sure you're going to love these too! ;)

Tom Ford Lip Color in Black Orchid

As a lover of dark and vampy lipsticks, this has been on my wishlist ever since it came out. I've read a lot of good reviews about Tom Ford Lip Color and was pretty excited once I got my hands on this baby.

First off, the packaging is gorgeous - fit for a luxury brand. It is a bit on the heavy side but you can also tell how sturdy it is when you hold it.

The color is darker on the tube compared to when applied. Both, however, can come across as intimidating especially if you are used to lighter shades. Let me assure you this is still very much wearable. In fact, Lisa Eldridge made a video on how to wear one lipstick in different ways and she featured Black Orchid.

When wearing this particular shade, there is one thing to keep in mind: Scrub your lips! Any flaky or dry areas will be accentuated when this is worn. Lip balm alone won't solve this problem.

Another thing I noticed that I wasn't too thrilled about is that this takes extra effort when applying because it tends to go on uneven.

Although it feels soft on the lips, it is less moisturizing compared to Chanel Rouge Allure or Guerlain Rouge Automatique's formula. In my case, once the color faded, I noticed slight peeling and dryness. But its not as bad as MAC's Runaway Red (which aside from the peeling made my lips feel raw).

Another thing that disappointed me was the wear time. I get a lot of mileage from Chanel, Guerlain and even Revlon! But with Tom Ford, I noticed fading within two hours and I had to constantly reapply throughout the day.

Since this is the first Tom Ford Lip Color I've tried, I can't tell for sure if all these issues are just with this specific color or if the entire line is formulated this way.

Bottomline? You have to really want and love this shade to have it because aside from that, it's just too much work for a lipstick.

Will I try Tom Ford Lip Color again? Possibly. But I will definitely go for a lighter shade to compare if it will perform better than Black Orchid.

Lush Veganese Hair Conditioner

It's been a year since I've switched to using either natural or organic bath products and it's a decision I'm glad I made. I'm still in that phase where I'm excited to try out different things.

I just finished this bottle of Veganese hair conditioner from Lush and it was pretty good.

It's quite thick so you won't need a lot. Working it in, you'll feel that its slippery and untangles your wild locks. Rinsing is the same as any other conditioner out there, you'll need to make sure to do it well so as not to leave any residue. Once done, your hair will feel smooth and soft. It has a scent that some people describe as lemony but to me, it's more like herbs you use for cooking (not the aromatherapy kind). I personally don't mind, sometimes I even enjoy the scent, but it's definitely an acquired taste that some may not like.

Some hair products make my skin break out. I did not experience that with Veganese. It was gentle on my skin and scalp.

This might be a repeat purchase in the future because it does the job well!

Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited Lipstick in BG 940M

I always had this impression that matte lipstick was uncomfortable because it felt cakey and dried out my lips - thanks, MAC!

It was Shu Uemura that changed how I saw this - they have one of the better formulas around. It glides on smooth and even. The feel is velvety, surprisingly light and is unscented. Wear time is decent, staying for three to four hours. For a matte lipstick, this is moisturizing and cushiony.

The color looks dark on the tube and when swatched on my arm but looks a lot lighter on my lips.

The only downside is that it sometimes settles into the lines of your lips but I noticed that if you press your lips together (no need to smudge with your finger), that solves the problem.

BG 940M is described as a "muted pink beige brown with warm undertones" - maybe I'm color blind but I can't see the brown in this. Positive on the pink and beige though.

I selected this shade because I wanted an understated color to match a bright-eyed look (Sugarpill!) or a dark, smoldering smokey eye. This also looks great for an everyday no makeup look.

In other news, I was MIA last week because I had to deal with getting rid of a spoiled brat in my life. I hate negative people who do nothing but bring drama and cause trouble. They are so toxic! I'm glad to totally cut that person off of my life.

Who needs people like that, right?

The good thing about that is I can now spend more time with the people I love who make me happy! :)

Dermalogica Precleanse

Looking for a cruelty-free alternative to Shu Uemura's Cleansing Oil? Then check out Precleanse from Dermalogica.

In terms of weight, it can be compared to Shu's pink variant (Fresh Pore Clarifying Gentle Cleansing Oil). Both do not contain mineral oil which explains why it feels a lot lighter than other cleansing oils.

This can be used as a makeup remover or as the first step in your night time skincare routine. It's used the same way you would any cleansing oil. Apply it directly to your face then with wet hands, massage the oil until it becomes "milky." Rise after and follow with a gentle cleanser.

Personally, I love the lavender scent because its relaxing... just what you need after a long day.

NARS Mexican Rose Velvet Lip Gloss Pencil

I know I'm a little late in the game here given that Mexican Rose was released early this year. Actually, when NARS released their Velvet Lip Gloss Pencil line last year, I was intrigued. I wanted to try it but my fear of disappointment prevented me from doing so. I mean a lip gloss in pencil form sounded like something that would easily fade and nobody wants that.

NARS had a 1-day sale last month. And if I could save some dough on something that would potentially suck, I wouldn't feel so bad.

I wish I had gotten this sooner!

Calling this a lip gloss is deceiving. It doesn't have that high-gloss finish like real lip gloss does but it does impart a nice subtle shine on the lips. The color starts off sheer and is buildable. I noticed that once this product settles, the color becomes a bit more intense.

About my fear of this easily fading? Rubbish. Pure utter rubbish. The Velvet Lip Gloss Pencil lasts longer than Milani HD Advanced Lip Color. It's safe to say that this lasts the whole day because even if the top layer fades, Mexican Rose is so pigmented that it leaves a bright pink stain on the lips.

This is what Mexican Rose looks like applied light and heavy:

Although its not as moisturizing as NARS' Sheer Lipstick, this won't dry out the lips either. It's still pretty comfortable to wear.

As much as I love lipstick, I don't like how it's applied. Whether its from the tube, or if I use a small lip brush, or use a pencil and fill everything out... it's just too tedious. If you're like me and you want to apply bold color neatly with less time, then this pencil is perfect. That's actually the number one reason I love this product.

Bottom line is I love this and if I fancy another color from this line (I haven't really checked the others out), I'm pretty sure it's going to find a spot in my kit.

Sugarpill Heart Breaker Palette

Warning: this is a picture-heavy post.

The wait for new Sugarpill colors seemed like forever. When they announced the new Heart Breaker palette, I was literally counting the days until its release. As soon as they announced it was available for purchase, I ran to my laptop for fear it would run out of stock. Low EQ moment, I know.

As with the other colors in Sugarpill's pressed eyeshadow collection, Heart Breaker features vibrant and fun to wear shades that are packed with color and easy to blend. I can't say that these are totally buttery-soft but the quality comes close and it adheres well to the skin. Truly a makeup artists dream!

Top: Acidberry & Velocity; Bottom: 2AM & Mochi

Last year, I purchased some eye colors from Make Up For Ever because in my mind, those colors would go well with the rest of my Sugarpill pressed eyeshadow collection. I got 3 of them right on target - it made me laugh to see such similar shades come out.

Mochi is similar to the MUFE Diamond Shadow in 302 (Diamond Turquoise), with the main difference that the latter contains glitter and Mochi does not. What this means is that the Sugarpill shadow sticks to the skin a lot better and reflect less light thus allowing the camera to capture its true color. The same can be said for Acidberry and its MUFE counterpart, Diamond Shadow in 304 (Diamond Lime). Velocity has a subtle shimmer compared to MUFE Eyeshadow in 159 (Matte Blue). All the hand swatches below were applied without primer. I did not have anything similar to 2AM.

Mochi (left) and MUFE Diamond Shadow 302 (right)

Acidberry (left) and MUFE Diamond Shadow 304 (right)

Velocity (left) and MUFE Eyeshadow 159 (right)

Although all of these colors are great, the one I liked least was Velocity. When I pat the color and blend lightly, the outcome is beautiful. But when I start blending a little harder, the color tends to get a little muddy. It's a common problem I noticed with blue eyeshadow. All the other colors were easier to work with.

Below are more swatches - without and with primer so you can see the difference. Here, I used my Urban Decay Primer Potion.

No primer: Mochi, Velocity, 2AM, Acidberry

With UDPP: Mochi, Velocity, 2AM, Acidberry

Now for a soft-focus look using all the colors in this palette. I decided not to do a bright application because I was in a hurry to leave home yesterday!

Finally, here's the list of ingredients:

I hope you all found this post useful. I sure had fun putting it together! Now... go, get your Sugarpill fix ;)

Missha White Tea Lip & Eye Makeup Remover

Most of the buzz that revolves around the brand Missha can be credited to their BB Creams. I was almost tempted to try it out but given that I still have 4 unopened tubes/bottles of foundation and 3 more that I am trying to finish, it's a bad idea to get another one. But I really, really wanted to. Sigh.

What I ended up getting was this White Tea Lip & Eye Makeup Remover because I was certain it would not go to waste. I was hoping for it to be similar to the Bioderma Sensibio H2O makeup remover because I needed an accessible alternative. And my wish came true... YAY! I would like to thank my lucky stars that the Missha store is barely a 10-minute drive from where I stay.

If you have the chance to try this out, give it a shot. The bottle contains less product (90ml) compared to Bioderma's whooping 500 ml but it does cost less too. Plus it won't take up too much space in your makeup kit or bathroom shelf.

It basically works the same way Bioderma does - feels like water on the skin and is unscented. I am a huge fan of the fact that it's not oily. All you need to do is pour some of this on a cotton pad and gently press it against your eye for about 30 seconds. Next, dab gently and you'll find that most of your eye makeup has been removed. To get rid of eyeliner, soak a cotton bud and use that to clean. There's no feeling of irritation or discomfort whatsoever.

Another similar product is The Face Shop's Black Bamboo Deep Clean Lip & Eye Remover. Yes, it's missing the word "Makeup." I've been recommending it to everyone who asks me for a good makeup remover. Now I'm adding this Missha product to the list!

Chanel Le Vernis Nail Colour No 607 Delight

This is the last product on my Summertime de Chanel series and another unplanned purchase. The metallic gold/bronze finish of Delight was just too fun to pass up. I can imagine wearing this on fun nights out but some may find this appropriate for daytime wear too.

I like the formula of this shade because of its ease of application. You can get away with a single coat for a lighter look or add a second coat for a solid color. I am very much reminded of the Chanel 2011 Le Vernis collection - I think this might be a younger sibling.

Chanel Rouge Coco Shine No 437 Empreinte

Another Summetrime de Chanel 2012 review! Rouge Coco Shine in Empreinte is a limited edition shade from this collection.

It's a lightly scented, sheer beige tint with gold micro-glitters. And when I say sheer, I mean sheer. Even when I applied a heavier coat it hardly made a difference. I liked it when I swatched it on my arm and loved the color when I wore it on my lip because it enhanced its natural color. But that's the only good thing about this product.

10 coats and 2 coats

I really wanted to love this because the color was unique. However, the wear time isn't great. In my case it would only stay put for an hour and couldn't even survive through a cup of tea.

Another thing which disappointed me was this wasn't moisturizing nor was it drying. It just did nothing. Heck, my EOS lip balm feels way better on my lips compared to this product.

This was a huge disappointment for me because the other Chanel lip products I own last for a very long time and make my lips feel ultra-moisturized. I expected more from this apart from the lovely color.

Since this was my first Rouge Coco Shine, I'm not entirely sure I would purchase any other color from this line.

Have you tried other Rouge Coco Shine products and did you experience the same thing? Let's discuss! :)
