NARS Storm Bird Nail Polish

I love black nail polish and always will... but wearing the same color all the time can be boring. So it's good to have alternatives. NARS Storm Bird is part of the Fall 2012 collection and personally, I think it's one of their better pieces this for the season.

The formula is in a happy middle where it isn't runny that I have to worry about a lot of clean-up nor is it too thick. This was very easy to apply and was not the least bit messy.

I was able to get a lot of coverage with a single coat but a second one guarantees full opacity. In the pictures above, no top coat was used - this nail polish shines beautifully where hit by light.

Storm Bird is a mid-toned bluish grey which looks much lighter on the bottle as opposed to when its dry on the nail.

My eternal problem is (and I've mentioned this before) my nail polish usually chips after 24 hours. I'm hopeful with Storm Bird because I'm on my third day and there aren't any signs of wear. That's a big deal for me which makes me love this even more! I'm so glad I picked this up!

Rouge Bunny Rouge Long-lasting Eye Shadow in Mysterious Tinamou

Maybe it's a lucky streak but every Rouge Bunny Rouge product I've tried, I like. I take it back, it should be love! A few posts back, I mentioned that I'm trying to be more adventurous with color and blue was something I shied away from for a very long time. Some eyeshadow colors I've tried were disastrous and I needed something really good.

I was planning to purchase a neutral color for my very first Rouge Bunny Rouge eyeshadow. Then I changed my mind and thought, what the hell... And so, Mysterious Tinamou ended up on my shopping cart instead of a "safe" color.

As expected, the packaging is understated and chic - typical of the brand. The compact is sturdy and includes a small mirror.

Mysterious Tinamou appears teal on the pan but when swatched on my arm and applied on my eyelids, its a shimmery deep-blue with the slightest hint of grey. A good beginner blue since it's very wearable and not overwhelming.

The texture is exceptional as I found it buttery-soft and it's one of the few eyeshadows I've encountered where blending isn't just easy, it's effortless. It's simple enough to layer and build color without making a mistake.

Although I always wear primer on my lids (because it's just THAT oily), it doesn't come as a surprise that this lasts the entire day without creasing. I love products that don't require retouching... don't we all? :)

The reason I've been scared of blue? Because it tends to accentuate my dark undereye circles even with corrector and concealer on. I'm happy that this doesn't have that effect which gives me the much-needed confidence I need to wear blue!

NARS Como Larger Than Life Lip Gloss

Larger Than Life is marketed as a long-lasting lip gloss packed with color and shine. There are a lot of things I like about this product but there are some things I also am not a fan of.

True to its claim, it lasts longer than most lip glosses and the shine is strong without it being runny. It applies evenly, feels smooth and hydrating. Even if it contains shimmer, it doesn't feel gritty.

Although it did not feel sticky at the start, once it wore down and the color faded it also felt tacky. That was after two hours of wear.

The applicator brush is the smallest I've seen on a lip gloss. Good, when you want to make sure your application is neat but you'll have to dip in the tube twice to get enough product to coat your lips. A third time if you want the color to come out stronger.

Como has a berry base and fine gold shimmer - it looks dark on the tube and when swatched on the arm. On the lip, the color appears much lighter. From afar, the gold shimmer is barely noticeable. It's neutral with a punch.

The only thing that I find strange is that when the product thins out and starts to fade, my lips peel. It doesn't feel the least bit dry or raw. It just peels. Oh well, at least it exfoliates my lips ;)

The Body Shop Lily Cole Collection Liquid Eyeliner

So here's the liquid eyeliner that I mentioned in my previous post. This is part of The Body Shop's Lily Cole limited edition line. As with the other items in this collection, the packaging is super cute.

It took me two weeks before I gave in and bought this since I haven't had much luck with liquid eyeliners in wells. Most of the time, the formula is too thick for me and always stings. This was milder although when I tried putting it on thick, for a fleeting moment, it stung a little.

It comes with a felt-tip applicator which works well especially if you're a bit challenged when it comes to drawing a line around your eyes. It's firmness helps maintain control during application.

The swatch below shows the opacity of this liquid eyeliner. On top, I layered it on twice and below was just a single swipe. It's a lot simpler to apply on bare skin because on top of powder, it appears thinner and you may need a third layer.

When applying this, remember to let it dry for a few seconds before you blink or else you'll end up with a mess.

It was only this year that I started to appreciate eyeliners that aren't black or brown. Purple is definitely becoming one of my favorites because I love the way it stands out when worn with a neutral or sparkly eye.

This stays on for a very long time without smudging or fading. In fact, I can apply this in the morning and when I come home at night, it's still there. And that makes me a happy camper.

Do check this out - it's a pretty good product that'll add an extra oomph to your everyday look!

The Body Shop Lily Cole Collection Puff On Radiance

The Body Shop launched the Lily Cole collection a while back and the theme was pinky, purply, peachy and sparkly! I tested most of the products and wasn't impressed. The only two that piqued my interest were the Puff On Radiance and liquid eyeliner (to be reviewed later this week).

Now take a look at that packaging. Seriously... it's so darn cute you may want to purchase this just because of how it looks.

The puff is functional and picks up the powder well but I still prefer using a brush to blend and diffuse the color better.

According to The Body Shop, Puff On Radiance is a highlighter with pink tones. However, I think it's more peachy-pink. These come in little pearl balls similar to Guerlain Meteorites. The three colors found here are peach, baby pink and pink blush - all of which are shimmery.

Click on the images below to enlarge the swatches! As you can see, once blended on my arm, the color appears to be seamless. Beautiful right?

Unfortunately, it does not translate that way on the face. When I applied this on my cheeks, the gold shimmer became obvious as it sat on top of the pink powder. The gold particles were too big and looked unflattering especially in the parts where I had enlarged pores. Even using a light hand and blending really well, it still looked this way. NARS Orgasm looks better in comparison.

If you have super smooth skin, then you are extremely lucky and chances are this would look better on you. As for me, I don't think I'll get to use this all that much since it's rather unflattering.

Guerlain by Emilio Pucci Blu Acqua Terracotta Khol Kajal

I'm a little late in the game in reviewing this but I thought I'd still put it out there in case these are still available in your area and you're thinking about purchasing it.

When I saw the press release for Guerlain's Emilio Pucci collection, I had my heart set on getting the bronzer and nail polish. Things don't always go as planned - I didn't get either of them (although if they still have it stocked once sale season arrives, I will probably reconsider). Instead, I ended up with the Blu Acqua Khol Kajal.

I've always been afraid of wearing blue on my eyes and I'm trying to get over that. I knew this blurple shade would help me transition with ease.

I love the color. It's a soft indigo shade which makes it suitable for everyday use and wearable no matter what skintone you have.

Everything else about this, I feel rather lukewarm.

I've seen other khol kajal in the same shape and I wonder what happens when the tip has worn down. The ladies at the Guerlain counter told me I should use a brush to apply once the shape changes. I'm not sure if that's going to work because of the texture but I'm willing to give it a try.

Speaking of texture, this feels a bit dry, firm and on the waxy side. Almost like a crayon but it's still kind to the skin around my eyes since I did not feel any tugging. Khol products are meant for a smoky/smudged look and I find this easy to blend out using a firm, synthetic brush.

The color payoff is weaker than most khol eyeliner pencils I've used. The swatch below shows what it looks like with one stroke (above) and five (below). Obviously, this needs to be layered should you want the outcome to be bright and bold.

Aside from using this as an eyeliner, this can also serve as an accent shade to define the outer corner of the eyes.

I expected wear time to be shorter than most products given the texture. On its own, it fades away in less than two hours. Wearing a primer underneath doesn't help much because it's the upper layer that fades. I found that topping this with eyeshadow or eyeliner sealant (such as MUFE's Eye Seal) prolongs the wear time by two to three hours.

If you're planning to take this look from day to night, you will definitely need to carry your Khol Kajal in your bag since touch-ups are inevitable.

This is more of a "nice to have" product. Personally, I'm willing to put up with it because I really love the color.

Otherwise, I say skip it and find something longer lasting.

Coming Soon... MAC Archie's Girls Collection

I grew up reading and collecting Archie Comics... to the point that my parents would hide them from me just so I would go to sleep!

My cousin gave me my first Betty and Veronica Double Digest... issue number 1! I was a careless kid and did not know the value of keeping comic books in mint condition. I would just read it over and over again until the pages started to fall off.

Hearing that MAC was coming out with a collection inspired by Betty and Veronica has got me all excited. Now I want to fast forward to 2013 and see what products are coming out. I'm pretty sure I'll be getting stuff from this collection... not because I'm a makeup aficionado, but because I love Archie Comics!

Edward Bess Ultra Slick Lipstick: Forbidden Flower, Midnight Bloom & Night Romance

These three have been sitting in my traincase, neglected. It's because I took one whiff of the fig scent from Edward Bess' lip gloss line and it gave me a massive headache. Literally. I don't know what it is exactly. Maybe I'm just strangely built - on some days I get a migraine just smelling this and other days I hardly notice it at all.

The bright side is that the lipstick scent is weaker. After a while, the scent disappears so it's not so bad. Beyond that, it's a very good product.

Most of the time, sporting a red lip can be difficult because a lot of care needs to be put in applying it. Midnight Bloom, however, is easy peasy. The creamy texture allows it to glide effortlessly. Two swipes and you're good to go! It does not feather and lasts a long time. The only time I have to re-apply is after drinking or eating. Otherwise, there's minimal fading after four hours of wear. The color is opaque with a bit of sheen to it.

You know how they say that all you need is lipstick (and nothing else) to brighten up the face? They were probably talking about Midnight Bloom. I can wear this without any makeup on and it transforms my face.

Red lipstick lovers, this is a must have!

If you're looking for a more toned-down shade, Night Romance might just be up your alley. This is a semi-opaque muted pink which goes well with either a day or night look. The texture is similar to Midnight Bloom and the color payoff is equally superior. There was a little more fading after four hours of wear but the color was still noticeable on my lip.

Forbidden Flower is a nude peach shade which I expected that once applied would match its appearance on the tube. Not the case because on my lip, it was much lighter. Among the three, this is the least pigmented and takes some work applying because it appears uneven on the lip. It tends to accentuate dry patches - I had to scrub really well to make it look decent for this photo.

The lipstick tubes shows here are from last year. I found these to be sleek, sturdy and the overall look was classic. Recently, Edward Bess changed their packaging and it's now square. I have very strong feelings about this which I will share once I review Demi Buff.

Anyway, all of these are extremely comfortable to wear because it is so hydrating. They last a good amount of time and it feels light on the lips. If you love lipstick, you need to try this brand because the formula is really good.

Have you tried this product? What other shades would you recommend?
