Chanel Lèvres Scintillantes No 168 Désir

Oh my! What a bright color this is... on the tube, at least. Désir appears to be bright pink on the verge of fuchsia with pink and silver microglitter. Something you'd find in a disco queen's makeup bag.

However, it looks softer once applied on the lip - the base becomes sheer... it's the shimmer that stands out and makes this gloss unique.

You can wear this with or without a lipstick base because for a gloss, its pigmented enough. As always, the formula lasts longer than any other brand of gloss I've worn.

Unlike the other Lèvres Scintillantes I've used, this feels a little bit gritty but I can live with it.

Bottomline, this line is something you have to have from Chanel. But this specific color, is more of a nice to have rather than an essential. There are other colors I prefer over this.

Désir is part of the 2012 Roses Ultimes De Chanel collection and based on the Chanel website, it looks like this is still available.

Burberry Lip Definer in No 05 Brick Red

Sporting a red lip can be tricky which is why it's essential to have a lip pencil in your kit.

I've been loving Burberry Lip Definer because it is firm but glides smoothly on the lips. The color pay-off is intense that one pass does the trick. There's more product because it's over an inch longer than my other lip or eye pencils. And it includes a pencil sharpener which gets a lot of use - I tried the standard one for all my other pencils and it didn't fit because of the square shape that Burberry Lip Definer has.

Sometimes, instead of using lipstick to fill in the rest of my lip, I'll use a lip pencil. Besides, a pencil is easier to carry around in my bag.

However, it is not as emollient as lipstick so it's best to top it off with a long-lasting lip gloss like Chanel Lèvres Scintillantes to prevent your lips from drying or flaking.

Brick Red is a warm red color - you can definitely spot strong orangey tones in this shade. I usually prefer neutral or cool reds but this is beautiful and would go nicely with a sheer wash of gold on the eyes.

I feel that this was worth every cent and in the future, I would like to get a nude shade from Burberry.

What's your favorite high-end lip pencil?

NARS Eyeliner Stylo

NARS picked the perfect time to re-launch their Eyeliner Stylo line because graphic eyeliner is one of the top trends for Fall!

I purchased Atlantic (navy blue) and Koala (medium grey) since I hardly see these colors in liquid eyeliner. Once I'm done with my K-Palette eyeliners, I'd like to give Carpates a try since it is one of the most intense black liners I've seen. I expected Nuku Hiva to be a darker shade of brown - I'm not sure if I like the intensity, it seems a bit too light.

Eyeliner Stlyo has a felt-tip applicator which is firm but I find it a bit too wide which makes creating a thin line challenging. I spent more time than usual just to make sure the parts where thinner application was needed looked neat - I used a dotting motion instead of drawing a straight line. I find it easier to apply liquid eyeliner with a brush-tip (like Cezanne Ultra Fine Eyeliner N). However, I'm happy that I can apply this to my lower lash line without any feathering.

These are very pigmented that I don't need to go back and top it off with a second layer. When applying, let it set for a bit before blinking because its pretty wet at the start.

This claims to last for 24-hours but I can't speak to that because I remove my makeup when I sleep. However, this lasted from day to late night without fading or smudging.

I love that it did not irritate my eyes or skin at all!

When this was first released, I ignored Eyeliner Stylo because it was just a liquid eyeliner. But after three weeks of going back and forth the NARS counter, I finally caved and swatched. No regrets in purchasing because these perform pretty well!

Chanel Lèvres Scintillantes No 162 Surprise

Surprise was one of the pieces from the mid-year 2012 Roses Ultimes De Chanel collection. I suppose I should post Dèsir and Amour too, since these are all limited edition.

My love for Glossimers started when I purchased Myriade. The consistency although thick, is non-sticky and wears comfortably. I love how it doesn't bleed and that it wears longer than most glosses. I'd say this line from Chanel is part of my top 3 favorites.

Surprise is a pearly pale pink color with multi-colored shimmer (but mostly dominated by iridescent white). Some glosses can be worn alone but Surprise is meant for layering over lipstick. What this does is it takes the base color down a notch and adds sparkle for a more voluminous effect.

Swatches below show Surprise on my bare lip and the next photo shows this on top of Edward Bess Ultra Slick Lipstick in Night Romance. If you want to see what Night Romance looks like without Surprise it's on the post I just linked.

Are you a huge Glossimer fan? What's your favorite?

The Body Shop Extra Virgin Minerals Cream Compact Foundation

Foundation is probably the most difficult cosmetic for me to purchase. Mostly because of the color match - I need for it to be as yellow as possible to match the rest of me. Even when a product says that its made for yellow undertones, I still find that its just not yellow enough to neutralize the redness caused by rosacea.

Golden Ivory is a pretty good match and it met my most basic requirement in selecting foundation.

The compact has two compartments - the upper half contains the cream foundation, and the lower portion holds the synthetic brush applicator. I know some may not be thrilled about using this brush but personally, I think it's okay. It's not difficult to apply the product using this brush and I'm able to blend it enough for it not to be streaky. Plus I like that I can carry it around - great for traveling!

The foundation isn't something I'd describe as lightweight - probably medium. I can definitely feel that I'm wearing something on my face and it feels a tad oily. Coverage is from light to medium and it works well for those with normal skin. It tends to accentuate dryness and if your skin is oily, you'll need to blot a few times to keep shine at bay. Fortunately, this did not break me out. Whew!

I do like that it evens out my skin color. The darkness around my eye became less obvious, as well as the dilated capillaries on my cheeks. It can also cover small blemishes.

I'm on the fence with this foundation - while I love the coverage this provides, I find myself limited to using this when my skin is in a good mood or when I'm in a less humid environment. If only they can fix that part of the formula, then this would be my daily foundation... but that's not the case. Bummer.

I'm sure a lot of you have better skin than I do, so you may still want to check this out.

And so my search for a super duper yellow foundation that provides good coverage and is good for dry skin continues. Got any recommendations for me? :)

Chanel Illusion D' Ombre in Mirifique

Sorry for the short absence - it's the monsoon season here and we just experienced devastating floods all over the region. Everything was at a standstill for days. It's rare that I say this, but it's nice to finally see the sun shine. Anyway, I'm glad things are starting to get back to normal.

I thought I'd share with you today another Illusion D'Ombre from Chanel. Back in June, I featured a beautiful purple color called Illusoire. Please check out that review for more product information.

Mirifique has a black base with silver micro-glitter that sitting on top of the formula. The swatch below shows this applied multiple times (left) and a single layer (right). As you can see, this needs a lot of layering and getting the color to come out beautifully is a challenge. Not to mention there's always fall-out during application. That in mind, make sure to apply this before foundation for easy clean-up.

I tried using this as an overall eye color and it was messy and difficult. The best way is to use this on top of black eyeshadow - that way, you already have an opaque base to begin with. I really struggle every time I try to wear this as an eyeshadow.

Instead, I now use this as an eyeliner because there's less fall-out. But in order to make it look good, I still have to apply this in layers... which means I don't have the time or patience to do this daily. Only on nights when I go out and want a bit of sparkle.

As beautiful as this color looks, it's very disappointing how it applies. I could live without this specific color as it's just meh. I do, however, love the other colors that I have - I'm a huge fan of Illusoire as well as Epatant and Emerveille... the last two I have yet to show you!

Has anyone else used Mirifique? If so, how did you make it work for you? I think I need loads of help here! :)

Jane Iredale Lip Fixation in Rapture

I'm not a huge fan of lip stain because it dries out my lips like crazy, even with lip balm underneath. Some products dry in record-speed that there's hardly any time to blend! It took me a while to unbox Lip Fixation because I wasn't sure if I would experience the same thing.

It was a good call to do a road test for two weeks.

The Lip Stain is unlike any that I have tried. Its lightweight but not as watery as your typical gel stain - I'm guessing it's because of the pigment used. Applying this on the lips is absolutely delightful because it has a velvety feel to it. More importantly, it did not feel dry, my lips did not get flaky. Thank goodness!

It's important to note that the lip stain takes some time to set - about a minute. Once it's dry, then the next step would be to apply the lip gloss. This way, the lip gloss applicator will only pick up a minimal amount of color from the stain.

The other half of this product is a sheer pink Lip Gloss with white opalescent micro-glitter. It won't change the color of the lip stain at all - it enhances it by adding shine and subtle shimmer. Like the lip stain, it has light vanilla scent which I like.

After five hours of wear, the color faded a wee bit but it's still pretty obvious I was wearing lip product. And it was around that time, I noticed that it started to feel sticky on my lips (I didn't feel that way the first couple of hours). That's just about the only thing I wasn't a fan of.

The only instance I had to reapply Lip Fixation was after eating and drinking.

I think the mere fact that this product can be worn several ways makes it a winner. You can choose to combine the products or use them solo. The lip stain gives you a soft look with a single layer but if you want something more bold and opaque, it's very easy to build the color.

And the lip stain can also be used on the cheeks... but the tiniest amount is all you need because this is crazy pigmented. The result is a beautiful rosy glow! If you're going to attempt this, practice first. Trust me.

The first photo shows me wearing the lip stain and the photo below that shows my lips topped with lip gloss.

I think this is the best lip stain I've tried to date and when I run out, it's definitely going to be part of my shopping list!

Have you tried Lip Fixation? What are your thoughts?
