The Charity Fashion Show

I wanted to share with you the work I did for a charity fashion show that was held last Sunday. This was particularly different because we, the makeup artists, never saw the dresses - we had no idea who was wearing what (there were several designers participating) nor the theme. To take away a lot of guess work, the head makeup artist instructed us to all do a smokey eye for the ladies.

All the models are doctors (or relatives) because it was their show and they were raising money for the hospital where they work. It was a great honor to get to contribute to a worthy cause. This was also near and dear to me because the hospital is actually an extension of the University that I attended.

I had the pleasure of doing makeup for this mom and her 2-year-old. It's not easy applying makeup on a toddler... especially when they don't want any. I bribed her with pictures of cats and pandas. In exchange, she let me put some color on her lips.

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the photos. I hope I get to review something soon... I have a lot but I've been either working or sick. Boo!

Happy Thanksgiving to all! I am thankful for being part of this awesome blogging community and having friends like you :) Now it's time for me to have more of my mother's homemade pumpkin pie!

Photo Shoot Series: No Makeup Look

As a makeup artist, I sometimes get lost in all the wonderful colors and textures in my kit. It's evident in most of the work included in my portfolio - the models either have a bold lip or a sparkly or dramatic eye.

A photographer/stylist friend of mine brought forth the idea of creating a "no makeup" look because a common friend (also a photographer) needed it for his portfolio. I jumped at the opportunity and the photo above was the final product.

I just wanted to quickly share with you the products I used to achieve this look. Here goes:

Prep:
  • NARSskin Luminous Moisture Cream
  • Clinique All About Eyes Rich
  • Make Up For Ever High Definition Primer

Face/Cheek:
  • NYX HD Studio Photogenic Foundation - 01 Nude
  • Cinema Secrets Concealer - Kit #2
  • Shu Uemura Face Powder Matte Colorless
  • Make Up For Ever Shine On Powder
  • Smashbox Contour Palette
  • NARS Blush - Outlaw (just the tiniest bit)

Eyes:
  • Viseart Natural Eyeshadow Palette (as eyeshadow & brow color)
  • TonyMoly Cats Wink Mascara
  • Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil - Corrupt
  • Make Up For Ever Lip Liner Concealer (yes, on the eye)

Lips:
  • Edward Bess Ultra Slick Lipstick - Night Romance
  • Edward Bess Deep Shine Lip Gloss - Sweet Dream

Body:
  • Benefit Bathina
  • Smashbox Contour Palette

I haven't used my Edward Bess lipsticks in a while but decided to whip these out and bring them to the shoot, without a plan. These were so easy to apply and photographed beautifully that I used them two weeks later during a bridal trial.

Anyway, I hope you found this post enjoyable or at the very least helpful. I plan on including more of my work and how I created the look, apart from the usual review.

Til next time ;)

Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long-Lasting Eyeliner in Noir Intense

Anyone who wears contact lenses, has sensitive eyes or extremely oily eyelids will tell you it's a PITA* to wear eyeliner. Even when something is labeled as smudgeproof or waterproof, there is still a chance of getting racoon eyes.

I'm one of those people. Which is why I am loyal to liquid or gel eyeliner. However, I do get tired of the graphic eyeliner style and yearn for a look that can only be created using a pencil liner.

Enter Stylo Yuex Waterproof Long-Lasting Eyeliner from Chanel.

The product itself is soft that you need to be careful not to twist too much of it up because there's a risk it'll break.

The opposite end has a sharpener you can detach, in case you want a sharp edge on your pencil.

Since the formula is soft, its easy to apply and won't tug the skin. True to enough, this is waterproof and long-lasting. After eight hours of wear, its still visible on my waterline. Not one second did I feel any discomfort from wearing this product.

Of course that also means that this will put up a fight when its time to remove your makeup. I had a difficult time removing this with my Bioderma cleansing water and had better luck with the NARS Gentle Oil-Free Makeup Remover or my Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil.

This, for me, is heaven sent since its kind to my eyes but has amazing staying power!

    *PITA - pain in the...
